Content Retirements FAQ

What changes mean for you, your learners, and how to plan ahead.

Updated yesterday

Go1 and our content partners regularly review and update courses in the Go1 library to make sure learners always have access to reliable, up-to-date content. Below are answers to common questions about content retirements.

Why does content retire?

To keep the library current, relevant, and compliant, we sometimes retire courses. This may happen if:

  • A provider releases a new version

  • Content is outdated or inaccurate

  • Licensing agreements change

  • Rarely, due to legal or compliance issues that require immediate removal

How often does content retire?

Content changes happen every month. Retirements follow a scheduled cycle with notice so you can plan ahead.

What’s the process and timeline?

Content moves through three stages before removal

1. Pending retirement (start of Month 1)

  • Courses are flagged in Go1 Learn and via email (if you’ve opted in).

  • Content remains discoverable and accessible to learners and admins.

2. Retired (start of Month 2)

  • Learners who already have access can continue using the course.

  • The course no longer appears in search or discovery.

  • Admins cannot import it into third-party systems, but previously imported content remains accessible.

3. Removed (end of Month 3)

  • The course is no longer available to any users.

This cycle typically takes around three months, unless urgent issues require faster removal.

What about learners already enrolled?

Learners can usually finish what they’ve started up until the removal date.

  • In Go1 Learners: once a course is retired, learners can still complete it, but new learners won’t see it in search.

  • In third-party systems: learners may still see and access retired courses if they were already imported before retirement.

Do you provide alternatives when a course retires?

Yes. Go1 suggests recommended replacements that are:

  • Closely matched in topic, level, and duration

  • From the same provider where possible, or from another trusted provider

  • Based on a combination of quality, usage, ratings, and expert curation

Alternatives appear in your Impact Reports and within the platform where relevant.

Can I extend access to retired content?

Generally no. To protect learners from outdated or non-compliant material, extensions are not offered. We provide notice and alternatives so you can prepare in advance.

What should I do when content I use is retiring?

  • Check the Retirements tab in Go1 Learn for details

  • Review the suggested alternatives and update your assignments or learning plans

  • Let learners know if a required course will be replaced, or swap it out
