Create and edit content items

Upload and manage individual content items like videos, documents, and links.

Using MyGo1? If you're still on our legacy platform, see Creating courses, modules & new learning items (MyGo1).

You can create individual content items — such as videos, documents, audio files, links, and more — directly in Go1 Learn. The item editor gives you a single place to upload content, add metadata, and publish items for your learners.

This is different from the course editor, which lets you group multiple items into a structured learning path. Use the item editor when you have a standalone piece of content to share.

Before you start

You'll need Administrator permissions to create and edit content items in Go1 Learn.

Supported content types

You can create the following types of content items:

  • Document — PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and other document files

  • Video — Upload a video file, or add a YouTube or Vimeo link

  • Audio — Upload an audio file (e.g. MP3)

  • Interactive — Upload a SCORM or xAPI package

  • Link — Add a URL to external content

  • Text — Write text-based content directly in Go1

The item editor detects the content type based on the file you upload. You don't need to choose a content type before you begin.

Create a content item

  1. Navigate to Content from the left menu

  2. Select the Created by us tab, then select Items

  3. Select Create

  4. Upload your file, add a link, or write your text content

  5. Click Next: Add details

Go1 creates the item and opens the item editor, where you can add details and metadata before publishing.

Edit item details

Once your item is created (or when editing an existing item), the item editor displays metadata fields organized into sections. Only the title is required to publish — all other fields are optional but help learners discover and understand your content.

Item details

  • Title (required) — The title displayed to learners

  • Description (recommended) — A description of the content. You can use formatting like bold, italic, and lists.

  • Image (recommended) — The thumbnail image displayed on the content card

Learning overview

  • Learning outcomes (recommended) — The knowledge or skills learners will gain from this content

  • Duration — How long the content takes to complete

  • Level — Choose from Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or Suitable for everyone

Language and region

  • Language and Language variant — The primary language of the content

  • Regional accent — The accent of any audio (e.g. English - Australia, English - US, English - UK)

  • Region relevance — Specify if the content relates to a specific country or region

Supported features

The fields in this section depend on the content type. Common options include:

  • Mobile friendly — Whether the content is optimized for mobile devices

  • Assessable — Whether the content includes assessable elements where learners receive a score or feedback

  • WCAG level — The accessibility standard the content meets

  • Closed captions — Whether the content includes captions. For video items, you can upload a captions file (.srt or .vtt)

  • Transcript — Whether a transcript is available. For audio items, you can upload a transcript file (.txt)

  • Screenreader compatible — Whether the content works with screen readers

  • Force learners to watch until the end — Prevent skipping ahead (video items only)

  • Allow learners to download this document — Show a download button in the player (document items only)

  • Mark as complete — Control whether the content automatically marks itself as complete, or if learners need to select a button to confirm completion (link items only)

  • Launch mode — Choose how link content opens (link items only)

Additional details

  • Topics — Classify your content using Go1's topic taxonomy

  • Tags — Add custom tags to help organize and filter your content

  • External ID — A unique identifier, useful if you manage content across multiple systems

Swap a media file

You can replace the uploaded file for an existing content item without losing your metadata. The new file must be the same content type as the original — for example, you can replace a document with another document, but not with a video.

  1. Open the item in the item editor

  2. Click on the trash icon next to your existing file

  3. Upload the new file

Note: If you need to change the content type entirely (e.g. replace a document with a video), create a new content item instead.

Publish and share your content item

When you're ready for learners to access your content:

  1. Select Publish to make the item available

  2. Choose who can access the item — share it with all learners in your organization, or with specific users or groups

You can unpublish a content item at any time if you need to make changes or remove access.

Note: Changes you make in the item editor are saved automatically as you work. You don't need to manually save before navigating away.

Find and manage your content items

All content items created by your organization appear on the Created by us > Items tab under Content. From this tab, you can:

  • View all draft and published items created by any admin in your organization

  • Sort items by title or last updated date

  • Filter items by tags, status (draft or published), or content type

  • Select any item to open it in the item editor

FAQs

How do I know my changes have been saved?

The item editor saves your work automatically as you go. You'll see a small Saving... indicator that changes to Saved once your changes are stored. The transition is subtle — if the indicator reads Saved, your work has been saved and you can safely navigate away.

Can I resize or edit images I've added to a text item?

The item editor doesn't include image editing tools. If you're creating a text-based content item and want to include images, resize and format them to the size you need before inserting them into the editor.
