How to bulk update content metadata

A step-by-step guide to updating the metadata for existing content using the Bulk Uploader

Note: This feature is only available to Go1 Content Partners

How to access the Bulk Uploader

You can access the Bulk Uploader by selecting Content from the menu and navigating to the Created by my portal tab.

Step 1: Download the existing content metadata

  1. Go to Content in the main menu (click your user icon).

  2. Select the Created by my portal tab.

  3. Select the content you want to update from the Content manager table.

  4. Click the Export button to download the metadata CSV file. This file contains the metadata fields for the selected content.

For more details on what metadata is required, please click here.

Before you edit the metadata CSV

The first row contains the column names. The second row contains instructions for each field. Keep both rows unchanged, then update one Learning Object per row.

Requirements in the table below apply to Content Partners publishing to Go1 Premium. Content published only to Your Portal has fewer required fields. See the Go1 Content Metadata Guidelines for the full requirements.

When uploading content, you can choose where you want your content to be published. You can choose from the following options:

  1. Your Portal – select this option to make your content available to users in your portal

Step 4: Upload your metadata CSV, images, closed captions, and transcript files

  1. Prepare your metadata CSV

    • Review the metadata you exported from the Content manager table

    • Check our metadata guidelines to understand what is expected of you

    • Make any updates to the metadata file

    • Ensure all required metadata fields are filled out - follow the instructions in the second row of the CSV template

    • Make sure the LO ID matches the content you’re updating.

When the upload is completed, you will see a summary of the learning content that has been successfully updated. You can close the Bulk Uploader by clicking Close at the bottom of the page.

If your upload has errors, you will see a banner indicating that your content has not been updated and published to your selected destination. Export the error report to view the errors. Once you have corrected the errors in your content metadata CSV, upload it again in the window.
