What you'll need: Admin permissions.
Open Field settings
1. In Go1 Learn, open Settings.
2. Select Field settings.
Understand each setting
Setting | What it does |
Active | Makes the field available in user management and CSV files. This must be enabled before other settings can be used. |
Required | Requires a value when a person is added manually or through CSV import. |
Visible to learner | Shows the field on the learner's profile. |
Editable by learner | Allows learners to update the field themselves. The field must first be visible to learners. |
Turning Active off also turns off the other settings. Turning Visible to learner off prevents learners from editing the field.
Update a field
Find the field you want to manage.
Select the settings you want to enable.
If supported, add a predefined list and manage its available values.
Select Save.
About predefined lists
A predefined list changes a free-text field into a dropdown of approved values. For example, a Job level list could include Senior, Mid-level, Junior, and Associate. Instead of entering free text, people select one of those options.
When a predefined list is configured:
In Go1 Learn, the field appears as a dropdown wherever it can be edited.
CSV imports and user data feeds must use a value from the list.
Currently, direct API updates are not validated against the list and can still send another value.
Creating or changing a predefined list does not update existing user data or trigger a bulk error. If a person already has a value that is not on the list, it remains on their profile. The next time someone edits that person in Go1 Learn, they cannot save until they select an approved value or the existing value is added to the predefined list.
Some predefined lists are managed by Go1 to keep values consistent:
Language and industry values cannot be changed.
Location values can be limited, but new values cannot be added.
Values for other supported fields can be managed by your organization.
About custom fields
You can manage the settings and values of existing custom fields.
Creating new custom fields is not available from this page in the initial release. Contact Go1 Support or your Customer Success Manager if you need a new custom field.
Required fields and integrations
Required fields are enforced when people are added manually or through CSV import. Rows without the required information will not be imported.
Required-field rules do not change how fields are handled through SSO, SCIM, APIs, or user data feeds. Predefined-list validation follows the behavior described above: Go1 Learn, CSV imports, and user data feeds validate against the list, while direct API updates do not.
Enabling Field settings does not automatically make fields required or change what learners can see or edit.
