Create and edit awards

Create awards with completion rules, content, and track external learning on Go1 Learn.

Using MyGo1? If you're still on our legacy platform, see How to create an Award (MyGo1).

Awards let you group courses, standalone learning, and other awards into one assignable experience. Use awards to support compliance, continuing professional development (CPD), skills pathways, and ongoing learning.

Before you begin

You’ll need Admin permissions to create awards in Go1 Learn.

Create a new award

  1. Navigate to the Content tab in the left menu.

  2. Select the Created by us tab.

  3. Select + Create, then select Award.

Add award details

  1. Enter a title for your award.

  2. Add an optional description and cover image.

  3. Select Next: Completion rule to create your award.

The title is required and must be 255 characters or fewer. Images can be PNG, JPEG, GIF, or AVIF files up to 10 MB.

After the award is created, changes are automatically saved as you work. The award remains in draft until you publish it.

Choose a completion rule

Each award has one completion rule. The rule controls how progress is measured and whether the award can be completed.

Use it when

Completion behavior

✅ Complete one item

Learners can choose between alternatives and completing any one is enough.

The award completes when the learner completes one item in the award.

🎯 Reach a target

Learners need to reach a defined number of points, courses, credits, hours, or steps.

The award completes when the learner reaches the target and completes every required item.

📈 Track ongoing learning

You want to record accumulated learning without a defined finish line.

Progress continues to accumulate, but the award is never marked complete.

Complete one item

Use Complete one item when learners only need to complete one item from a list of alternatives. For example:

  • Learners can choose one course based on their interests.

  • Several courses can satisfy the same learning requirement.

  • Learners can select one topic from a development collection.

🎯 Reach a target

Use Reach a target when learners must accumulate a defined number of points, credits, hours, or another unit. Configure:

  • A numeric target.

  • Singular and plural unit labels, such as credit and credits.

  • The quantity value of each item, such as 3 credits.

  • Whether each item is required or elective.

The award completes only when the learner:

  1. Reaches the target; and

  2. Completes every required item.

Elective items contribute toward the target, but learners do not have to complete all of them to complete the award.

Reach a target completion rule example

An award has a target of 5 points:

  • Course A is required and contributes 3 points.

  • Course B is elective and contributes 2 points.

  • Course C is elective and contributes 3 points.

Completing Courses B and C gives the learner 5 points. However, the award remains in progress until they also complete the required Course A.

Use Reach a target for:

  • Annual CPD requirements.

  • Compliance programs with required and optional elective learning.

  • Skills-development pathways.

  • Programs that combine Go1 content with external learning.

📈 Track ongoing learning

Use Track ongoing learning when you want to maintain a rolling total without a completion target. Configure singular and plural unit labels, then set how much each item contributes. This rule works well for:

  • Ongoing professional development.

  • Upskilling programs that do not have a defined end point.

  • Long-term tracking of learning hours.

  • Programs that combine Go1 with external learning without requiring a completion goal.

An award using this rule remains ongoing and is never marked complete.

Include external learning

External learning records capture learning completed outside Go1. Examples include:

  • In-person workshops.

  • On-the-job training.

  • External courses or certifications.

  • Professional development completed through another provider.

External learning is available with Reach a target and Track ongoing learning completion rules. To allow external learning:

  1. Open the award’s completion rule settings.

  2. Turn on Learners can upload external learning records.

  3. Decide whether submissions need moderation.

  4. If moderation is required, add one or more assessors.

A learner can submit details about their external activity and upload supporting evidence, such as a certificate.

Require moderation

Moderation adds an assessor review before external learning records counts toward the award completion progress.

When moderation is required:

  1. The learner submits an external learning record and any supporting evidence.

  2. The record remains pending and does not count toward award progress.

  3. An assessor reviews the learning details and evidence.

  4. The assessor marks the record as passed or failed.

  5. A passed record contributes toward the award. Pending and failed records do not count.

Add assessors

When moderation is required, you must add at least one award assessor to review external learning record submissions. You can add multiple assessors, but only one can be the primary assessor. The primary assessor:

  • Receives email notifications when records are submitted.

  • Is assigned new submissions by default.

  • Sees assigned submissions in the Assigned to me tab.

  • Can reassign a submission to another assessor added to the award.

Other assessors can view unassigned submissions in the All pending work tab and can be assigned submissions by the primary assessor.

When moderation is not required, a valid submission contributes according to the award’s completion rule without assessor approval.

Use the award editor to enable external learning records, require moderation, and add assessors. Assessors review submissions through a separate assessment workflow.

Add content to your award

You can add published content from Go1’s library or content created by your organization.

  1. Select Search content.

  2. Search or filter to find relevant content.

  3. Select the + icon to add content to the award.

The following content types can be added to an award: Courses, Documents, Videos, Interactives, Audio, Links,Text, Awards.

Add nested awards

Awards can contain other awards to support multi-level learning programs.

You can nest awards up to four levels deep, provided there is no circular relationship—where an award contains itself, either directly or through another award.

Manage unpublished content

Unpublished content created by your organization displays an Unpublished status label when added to an award. Learners cannot view or complete unpublished items, so make sure you publish them before publishing the award.

Manage retiring content

If Go1 Library content in your award is retiring, retired, or removed, the award editor displays a status label. Open the ellipses action menu to View alternatives and choose a replacement.

Configure award content

The settings available for each item depend on the award’s completion rule:

  • Complete one item: No item-level completion settings are required.

  • Reach a target: Set each item as required or elective and enter its contribution value.

  • Track ongoing learning: Enter a contribution value for each item.

New items in a Reach a target award are elective by default.

Organize award content

Drag items to change the order in which they appear. If you filter the list to show only required or elective items, clear the filter before reordering content.

Add award metadata

Add information that helps learners find and understand the award:

  • Learning outcomes

  • Duration.

  • Level

  • Language and language variant

  • Topics

  • Tags

  • External ID

Publish and share your award

Before publishing, select Preview to check the Award details and imagery, the configured completion rule, the included content, and any metadata.

When you’re ready to publish:

  1. Select Publish.

  2. In the Access modal, choose who can see the award:

    • All learners in the portal

    • Specific users or groups

    • Other portals that you administer

Unpublish an award

To return an award to draft:

  1. Open the published award.

  2. Select Unpublish.

  3. Confirm that you want to unpublish the award.

Edit an existing award

All portal Admins can edit any award in their organization, even if they didn’t create it.

  1. Go to Content > Created by us.

  2. Select the Awards toggle.

  3. Find the award you want to edit.

  4. Open the award and select Edit, or use the edit action in its row menu.

  5. Make your changes. They save automatically.

Clicking on a Draft award opens the editor directly. Published awards open a preview panel where you can select Edit.

Important: Changing an award from Reach a target to Complete one item removes its existing contribution values.

Delete an award

Admins can delete awards created by their organization.

  1. Go to Content > Created by us.

  2. Find the award you want to delete.

  3. Open the actions menu from the table or award editor.

  4. Select Delete award.

  5. Review the impact shown in the confirmation window.

  6. Confirm the deletion.

Deleting an award cannot be undone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know my changes have been saved?

After the award is created, the editor saves your work automatically. A saving indicator changes to Saved when your changes have been stored.

Can other admins edit my award?

Yes. Portal Admins can edit any award in their organization, including awards created by another admin.

Why is an award still in progress after the learner reached its target?

Check whether the award contains an incomplete required item. For Reach a target, it's mandatory for learners to reach the target and complete every required item.

Why hasn’t an external learning record contributed?

If moderation is required, the record must be passed by an assessor. Pending and failed records do not count.

Why can’t I find my own content to add to the award?

Make sure your content is published so that it can be searched and added to an award.

Can I add an event to an award?

No, an event cannot be added directly to an award. Create a course with an event, then add that course to the award.

Why can’t I set a quantity on a nested Award?

A nested Award calculates its own progress, so it does not have a separate quantity field in the parent Award. If you need the award to contribute a fixed quantity, add the relevant course or items directly to the parent Award instead of nesting the entire Award object.

For Reach a target and Track ongoing learning, the learner’s credits from the nested Award automatically contribute to the parent Award.

If the parent Award uses Reach a target, you can still mark the nested Award as Required or Elective. A required nested Award must be completed before the parent Award can be completed, even if the learner has reached the parent’s credit target.

For Complete one item, setting a fixed quantity on a nested Award is not currently supported, so it is not recommended to nest an award with the Complete one item completion rule.

Can I share an award with another portal?

Yes. You can share an award with any portal where you’re an admin. The destination portal must have access to every item included in the award; otherwise, the award won’t appear in that portal.

Where can I review and mark external learning submissions?

For now, external learning submissions must be reviewed in MyGo1. Go to My Teaching > Assessments, where you can review and mark each submission. This functionality will be added to Go1 Learn in a future update.
