Review learner work, provide feedback, and record assessment outcomes in Go1 Learn. You can assess submission tasks, long-answer quiz responses, and external learning submitted towards an award.
For event attendance, see Manage event attendees and mark attendance.
Before you begin
You must be a portal admin or an assessor for the relevant content:
Content to assess | Assessor access required |
Submission tasks | Course assessor containing the submission task |
Long-answer quiz questions | Course assessor containing the quiz |
Event attendance | Course assessor containing the event, or Event session assessor |
Award external learning | Award assessor containing the external learning records |
Portal admins can review all pending assessments in their portal, including work without an assigned assessor.
Note: Being a manager does not automatically give you permission to assess your team’s submissions.
Find work to assess
Open My learning.
Select To assess.
Choose the work you want to review:
Assigned to me shows pending work you are responsible for assessing where you're listed as the primary assessor, or if you've been reassigned as the responsible assessor.
All pending shows pending work you have permission to assess, including work assigned to other assessors.
Click on each item to review the submission.
Pending work appears oldest first. Each entry identifies the learner, content, and submission time. Events appear as one entry per session, rather than one entry per attendee, with the session date, time, and location.
An event session appears in To assess once its start time has passed and at least one attendee has pending attendance. You do not need to wait until the session ends.
Understanding assessor roles
Content can have a primary assessor and additional assessors. Each assessment also has a responsible assessor when someone is assigned to it.
Term | What it means |
Primary assessor | Receives new assessment work by default for the content. |
Additional assessor | Can review and mark work for that content through All pending, even when it’s assigned to someone else. |
Responsible assessor | The person currently assigned to a particular assessment or event session. The responsible assessor can be changed by reassigning the assessor for each submission in the dropdown in the To assess list. |
Primary and additional assessors have the same permission to assess work within their content scope. Being responsible for an assessment does not give someone exclusive access to mark it.

Assess a submission task
Submission tasks let learners upload files for assessment.
Open the learner’s submission task in the To assess tab.
Review their notes and uploaded files. You can view or download each file. If the learner has submitted previous attempts, you can expand the previous submissions to view and download the files.
Optionally add feedback for the learner.
Enter a percentage score from 0–100.
Choose whether the submission Passed or Failed.
If you choose Failed, decide whether the learner should be allowed to resubmit by enabling Allow resubmission.
Click on Update to save the outcome.
Submission task outcomes
Outcome | What happens |
Passed | The task is completed and passed. |
Failed, with resubmission allowed | The learner can submit new work for assessment. |
Failed, without resubmission allowed | The task is completed and failed. The learner cannot resubmit. |
Note: Adding feedback alone does not mark the submission. It remains pending until you confirm an assessment outcome.
Assess long-answer quiz responses
Open the learner’s quiz responses in the To assess tab.
Review the questions and responses. You can also view automatically scored questions (i.e. multiple choice, matching, and fill in the blank questions) and previous attempts.
Enter a score from 0–100 for each long-answer response.
Optionally add feedback where required for each long-answer response.
Finish scoring every long-answer response that requires assessment.
Select Done when finished.
The quiz remains pending until every response requiring assessment has a final score.
Go1 calculates the overall quiz result using the question scores and quiz settings:
If the learner passes, the quiz is completed and passed.
If the learner fails and another attempt is available, they can retry.
If the learner fails and no attempts remain, the quiz is completed and failed.
Assess external learning for an award
Open the learner’s external learning submission in the To assess tab.
Review the learner's details, view or download evidence uploaded, description, completion date, category, and quantity or units.
Mark the record as Passed or Failed.
Click on Update to save the outcome.
Passed records contribute towards the learner's award completion target. Failed or pending records do not contribute towards the completion target.
Mark attendance for an event session
Open the event session in the To assess tab. This will open up a list of all event session attendees.
Note: Event sessions appear in this list once the start time has passed and there is at least one attendee pending.Select the Pending tab.
Hover over each row and mark the learner as Attended or Not attended for individual attendees. To mark several attendees at once, select their checkboxes and choose the attendance outcome from the bulk actions from the top of the table.
Marked attendees will move to the corresponding Attended or Didn't attend tabs.
Event attendance outcomes
Attendance status | Event enrolment outcome |
Attended | Completed and passed |
Didn't attend | Completed and failed |
Pending | In progress |
Once every pending attendee has been marked, the session card will disappear from the To assess list. If another pending attendee is added to a session that has started, it will appear in the To assess list again.
To correct attendance later, find the session in the Manage events list, find the attendee in the Attended or Didn’t attend tabs, and change their attendance outcome. Learn more about managing event attendance here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the Assigned to me list empty?
There may be no pending work assigned to you. Check All pending for other work you have permission to assess.
Why is a quiz still pending?
Check that every long-answer response requiring assessment has a final score.
Why has a submission disappeared from the pending list?
Once the submission has been marked, it will disappear from the pending list. New work appears again when a learner submits another attempt that requires assessment.
Why can’t I see a learner’s submission?
Ask a portal admin to check that you are an assessor for the relevant course or award.
