What is a SCORM File?

Updated over a week ago

SCORM stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model. It’s a widely used format in eLearning that defines how online learning content is packaged and communicated between systems — typically between a course and a Learning Management System (LMS).

A SCORM file is usually delivered as a .zip package that contains all the necessary data, including media, content structure, and communication rules, allowing it to be uploaded and tracked within your learning platform.

Why use a SCORM file?

SCORM packages are used to:

  • Upload interactive content into your learning portal

  • Track learner progress and completion

  • Ensure compatibility across various LMS platforms

If you're looking to upload interactive content to your portal, you'll need to use either a SCORM file or an xAPI (Tin Can) file, both of which should be uploaded as .zip files.

Go1 SCORM specificities

  • Go1 SCORM files automatically create user accounts when the user first launches Go1 content.

    • In Go1 reporting, these user accounts follow a pattern similar to [email protected]. We call these user accounts SCORM-generated accounts.

  • Go1's SCORM file is designed to stay up to date, ensuring any updates made by the Content Provider to the learning item is automatic and does not require Admins to remove/re-upload the SCORM within your learning platform.
