Understanding our skills taxonomy

At Go1, we provide skills at the resource level to help Managers and Learners assess content before deciding whether to assign or enroll. Here’s how our skills taxonomy works and how it supports your learning needs.


How is our skill taxonomy defined?

Our skills taxonomy is a comprehensive structure created to organize and classify skills based on the learning content available in our library. It is automatically developed by extracting relevant skills from the metadata of each course, including its title, description, and learning outcomes.

To ensure accuracy and usability, raw skills are normalized by removing duplicates or overly similar skills and excluding infrequently used ones. This process results in a refined taxonomy of over 7,000 unique, normalized skills, designed to match a wide range of learning needs.

How often is it updated?

We periodically review and refine our skills taxonomy to ensure it remains accurate and relevant. While updates are not automatic at this stage, we plan and conduct reviews to incorporate new content and align the taxonomy with evolving industry trends and learning needs. This ensures the taxonomy continues to provide value for learners and organizations.

How is content mapped to skills?

Content is mapped to skills using AI technology that analyzes the information in each course, such as its title and description, and compares it to the skills in our taxonomy. The AI identifies the most relevant skills for each course based on how closely they match. Each course is then tagged with up to seven skills, making it easy for admins and learners to find content that matches their learning needs.
