Restricted Content Categories

Understanding how AI-powered content categorization works and what it means for your organization's learning.

Updated over a month ago

The available restriction categories reflect common organizational needs across our diverse customer base. These categories cover themes that customers have frequently requested to manage in line with their cultural and professional context.

Each organization chooses which categories, if any, to restrict based on their unique context and learner needs.

How we categorize content

Our content restriction system uses a two-step process to categorize learning content:

Step 1: Content Analysis AI reviews each learning object's title, description, and learning outcomes to create a summary of the main themes and topics.

Step 2: Category Mapping The system then evaluates this summary against predefined restriction categories to determine which restrictions, if any, should apply.

When you enable restrictions for specific categories, learners won't see that content in search results or recommendations.

Like any automated system, AI categorization isn't perfect. Most content will be correctly categorized according to your restrictions, but you may occasionally notice content you expect to be restricted remains visible to learners or some content you expect to be available gets filtered out, for example:

  • Educational content that mentions restricted themes without focusing on them

  • Content where titles and descriptions don't fully represent the material

  • New content added by partners may take up to 24 hours to be categorized

Your role in content governance

Content restrictions work as a powerful assistive tool to help you manage your learner experience at scale. We recommend:

  • Periodically reviewing content that's been restricted or allowed

  • Maintaining your own content review processes for compliance-critical requirements

  • Providing feedback when you notice categorization that doesn't meet your needs
