🏆 Understanding Award Goal Types in Go1

In Go1, an Award can be designed to motivate and recognize learner progress through three distinct goal types. Each type offers unique functionality and tracking capabilities depending on your learning outcomes. Here’s a breakdown of the three types of award goals:

1️⃣ Complete Any

The Complete Any goal type allows flexibility for learners by letting them choose which learning item(s) to complete.

  • The author defines a set of learning items.

  • The learner can choose any one of them to complete.

  • Once one item is completed, the award status is automatically marked as complete.

This is ideal when multiple learning paths are acceptable for achieving the award.

2️⃣ Reach the Target

The Reach the Target goal type is based on a credit system.

  • Authors set a target credit value that learners must reach to complete the award.

  • The target must match the sum of credits assigned to each required learning item.

Example:
If there are three learning items with 1 credit each, the award target should be set to 3 credits for proper tracking and completion.

🔄 External Learning Records

This setup supports learning beyond the portal:

  • External Learning Records can be enabled, allowing learners or admins to upload certificates or achievements earned outside the platform and assign credit to them.

  • To ensure credibility, authors can enable Moderate External Learning Records, which requires an assessor to validate submitted records before they are counted toward the goal.

3️⃣ Track Ongoing Learning

Often misunderstood, this goal type is designed not to trigger completion—it’s purely for tracking purposes.

  • Ideal for continuous professional development or long-term learning goals.

  • Authors can freely add learning items over time, without impacting award completion status.

  • Learners remain enrolled and engaged with ongoing updates.

Just like with Reach the Target, authors can enable:

  • External Learning Records

  • Moderate External Learning Records

These tools allow external learning to be tracked alongside internal progress.

🔔 Important Note on Award Enrolment

Award enrolment is only triggered when a learner is enrolled in a learning item from within the award.

If a learner starts or completes a learning item outside the award, the award will not automatically update.

In this case, learners must manually start the award by clicking the "Start" button.
