Install and configure the Morgan by Go1™ assistant in Microsoft Teams so your team members can access learning in the flow of work. This guide walks IT administrators through each step.
Who this guide is for
This guide is for IT administrators responsible for installing apps in Microsoft Teams and granting the permissions the Morgan assistant needs to run in your organization.
Installation involves three steps, which may require different people in your organization depending on how your access is configured:
Step | Action | Required role |
1 | Install the app | Teams user or Teams admin |
2 | Grant permissions | Azure Global Admin or Application Admin |
3 | Connect Go1 | Go1 Portal Admin |
Prerequisites
Make sure you have:
A Microsoft 365 tenant with Microsoft Teams enabled
Access to Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure Active Directory
Global Administrator or Application Administrator access
An active Go1 subscription
Go1 Portal Admin access for the final connection step
Important: You will need both Microsoft workspace admin rights and Go1 portal admin access to complete this installation. If you don't have these permissions, contact the appropriate person in your IT and HR departments.
Recommended: restrict the app to your L&D admins during setup
Before connecting your Go1 portal, restrict Morgan availability to your setup or pilot group.
This prevents your wider team from receiving Morgan's welcome message before the portal is connected and your rollout message is ready.
To restrict Morgan in the Teams Admin Center:
Go to Teams apps > Permission policies.
Create a policy that allows Morgan, or add Morgan to an existing policy assigned only to your setup or pilot group.
Assign the policy to the relevant users.
You can also use app setup policies or Manage apps to restrict availability by user group.
Step 1: Install the Morgan by Go1 app from the Teams app store
Open Microsoft Teams
Select Apps in the left-hand sidebar
Search for Morgan by Go1
Select the Morgan app published by Go1
Select Add
Once installed, the Morgan app will be accessible via your Teams sidebar. Opening it will display a setup prompt.
Note: If your organization restricts third-party apps, a Teams administrator must first approve the Morgan app via the Teams Admin Center under Teams apps → Manage apps.
Step 2: Grant Microsoft Graph API permissions
The Morgan assistant requires read-only access to Microsoft Graph so it can identify users within your organization and match them to Go1 learning profiles.
Why these permissions are required
These permissions allow the Morgan assistant to:
Identify users in your Microsoft tenant
Match Teams users to Go1 accounts
Deliver personalized learning content within Teams
What the Morgan assistant does not do
Morgan uses read-only Microsoft Graph permissions. It does not:
Modify user data
Access emails
Access files
Access unrelated Teams messages
Store Microsoft data outside secure Go1 systems
All access is governed by Microsoft's consent and security framework.
Required permissions
Permission | Type | Description | Admin consent required |
Profile | Delegated | Allows the app to identify the signed-in user and personalise learning experiences (e.g. greet by name) | No |
User.Read.All | Application | Allows the app to read all user profiles in the organisation without a signed-in user, enabling org-wide learning delivery | Yes |
Option A: Grant consent via Microsoft Teams (recommended)
Option A: Grant consent via Microsoft Teams (recommended)
This is the simplest method.
Open the Morgan app in Teams
On the welcome screen, select Approve Permissions
You will be redirected to the Microsoft consent screen
Review the requested permissions
Select Accept
Once approved, return to Teams.
Important: Only an Azure Global Administrator or Application Administrator can grant consent. Non-admin users may be prompted to request approval.
Admin consent is required once per organization. After approval, all users can access the Morgan assistant without additional prompts.
Option B: Grant consent via the Azure Portal
Option B: Grant consent via the Azure Portal
For centralized management or pre-approval:
Sign in to the Azure Portal
Navigate to Microsoft Entra ID → Enterprise Applications
Search for Morgan
If not visible, install the app once or use an admin consent URL.
Select the application
Go to Permissions
Select Grant admin consent for [Organization]
Review and accept permissions
Verify permissions:
Go to Enterprise Applications → Morgan → Permissions
Confirm all permissions show Granted for [Organization]
Step 3: Activate the Morgan assistant by connecting Go1
This step enables the Morgan assistant to deliver learning content inside Teams. Without this connection, the app will not display courses.
What you'll need
Go1 Portal Admin access
Steps
Open the Morgan app in Teams
Select Connect Portal
Sign in with your Go1 admin credentials
Select your organization's Go1 portal
Confirm the connection
Once complete, the Morgan assistant will display courses and learning content within Teams, and your learners are ready to start using it.
Note: Individual user permission settings within the Morgan by Go1 app are inherited directly from your Go1 portal
Make the Morgan app available to your team members
After installation, you'll want to make sure the Morgan app is available to the right people in your organization. There are two things to configure: who can access the app, and whether it's automatically installed for them.
Control who can access the Morgan app
After granting access to the Morgan app for your organisation, it may be available to all users in your Teams tenant. If you only want to make it available to active Go1 learners, you have two options:
If all users in your Microsoft tenant are Go1 learners, no action is needed — leave the default availability in place.
If only some users are Go1 learners, create an Azure security group containing those users, then assign the Morgan app to that group. This ensures only the right people see the app.
To manage availability:
Sign in to the Teams Admin Center
Navigate to Teams apps → Manage apps
Search for Morgan by Go1 and select the app
Select Users and groups
Choose Everyone or assign specific users and groups
Select Apply
For more detail, see Microsoft's guide to managing user access to Teams apps.
Automatically install the Morgan app for users
To make Morgan easier for learners to find, pre-install it in Teams.
In the Teams Admin Center, navigate to Teams apps → Setup policies
Select the Global (Org-wide default) policy to apply to all users, or select Add to create a custom policy for a specific group
Under Installed apps, select Add apps
Search for Morgan and select Add
Select Save
You can also pin the Morgan app to the Teams sidebar so it's visible by default. In the same setup policy, scroll to Pinned apps, select Add apps, search for Morgan by Go1, and add it.
Note: Policy changes can take a few hours to take effect. In some cases, changes may take up to 24 hours to reach all users.
For more detail, see Microsoft's guide to pre-installing Teams apps and app setup policies.
Account matching and learner sign-in
Morgan links Microsoft Teams users to Go1 learner accounts using their organization and user identity.
If a learner already has a matching Go1 account, Morgan connects them automatically and they can start using the assistant.
If Morgan cannot find a matching Go1 account, the learner may be prompted to sign in to Go1. If your organization uses SSO with Just-in-Time provisioning, signing in to Go1 may create the learner account if the learner is eligible and assigned to Go1 in your identity provider.
If the learner does not have a Go1 account and your organization does not use SSO with Just-in-Time provisioning, a Go1 admin must create or import the learner before they can use Morgan.
Tip: You can reduce access issues by making sure learner email addresses and SSO access are configured before rolling Morgan out to your organization.
Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting
Issue | Likely cause | What to do |
Morgan is not visible in Teams | Teams app permission policies may block the app | Confirm Morgan is allowed in the Teams Admin Center. |
Permission request fails | The user does not have the required Azure admin role | Ask a Global Administrator or Application Administrator to complete the consent step. |
App installed but no courses appear | Go1 portal connection is incomplete or permissions are missing | Confirm the Go1 connection and Microsoft permissions are complete. |
Morgan cannot find users | Required Microsoft permissions are missing or still propagating | Verify permissions in Azure and allow time for changes to apply. |
App installed but not accessible to learners | Teams policy or user group assignment is blocking access | Confirm the correct users or groups are allowed. |
Learner sees a Go1 sign-in prompt | Morgan needs the learner to confirm or connect their Go1 account | Ask the learner to complete the Go1 sign-in prompt. If using SSO with Just-in-Time provisioning, confirm the learner is assigned to Go1 in your identity provider. |
Learner cannot access Morgan after signing in | Learner does not have a Go1 account, SSO assignment, or required Go1 access | Ask a Go1 Portal Admin to create or import the learner, check SSO assignment, or update Go1 access. |
Team received welcome messages before setup was complete | Morgan was available to learners before rollout was ready | Restrict app availability during setup in future rollouts. Send a follow-up message to clarify what learners should do next. |
Data privacy and AI
The Morgan by Go1 assistant uses AI to process questions and surface learning content. Customer data is not used to train AI models. The permissions granted during installation control what the Morgan app can access — these can be reviewed and revoked at any time through your admin console.
